D. Anecdote

We were able to bring a telepresence robot into the classroom at Buckeye Woods Elementary School in Grove City. This allowed a young student, Jackson, who has multiple disabilities, to be able to attend a normal class and take a regular class schedule. He had been in special education curriculum but has progressed into regular curriculum in a very short period of time. It has also greatly improved his social network and his circle of friends.

Impact Area

We were able to bring a CCTV into the life a child in the Orrville school system. The CCTV allowed him the opportunity to be in a classroom and be able to see board and read the materials, which enabled him to keep up with his classwork. This CCTV has been instrumental in allowing him to mainstream, and not have to home school or recieive special services.

Public Awareness Activities

Public Awareness Narratives

Describe in detail at least one and no more than two innovative or high-impact public awareness activities conducted during this reporting period. Highlight the content/focus of the awareness information shared, the mechanism used to disseminate or communicate the awareness information, the numbers and/or types of individuals reached, and positive outcomes resulting from the activity. If quantative numbers are available regarding the reach of the activity, please provide those: however, quantative data is not required.

1. We were able to reach 15,461 through Constant Contact, our marketing and communication service. Through this service, we disseminated information about new equipment we added to our library, information about trainings and other resources, or updates about our agency.

2. We began a new blog, the Ohio Disability Blog. We partnered with Mark Seifarth, who has held numerous important positions in the disability world in Ohio, to create content for our blog to share with the Ohio disability community. We interviewed various disability leaders in Ohio, including Kevin Miller (director of Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities), Carolyn Knight (director of the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council) and Kerstin Sjoberg (director of Ohio Legal Rights) in order to update the public on the newest developments relative to these agencies.
