D. Anecdote

I just can't say enough good things about the Assistive Technology Reuse program! They have helped us several times in the past but especially in the last 18 months when my daughter Shelby lost most of her mobility. Alli quickly helped to set us up with a wheelchair, bath seat, and walker for our home that made things so much easier and safer and we are still using them every day! I love this program, not only because it is a way for families to access needed DME quickly and at no cost, but a wonderful opportunity for families and individuals to donate their no longer needed equipment and supplies and know that they will go to someone who is able to use them! --Sherry Larson

E. Anecdote

A speech-language pathologist from a local hospital shared how much the device loan activity helped her patient. She wrote: "Thank you so much for helping me with my patient. Once we figured out which app was best, he was talking up a storm! His mood has improved greatly now that he does not have to give single word responses to his fiance' via a QWERTY board (and she says the first thing he told her was "I love you"). Thank you so much for giving him a voice. I have also been telling anyone that will listen about your assistance and your program, so expect a lot more calls from Walterboro way!"

D. Anecdote

In this most difficult and challenging year, due to COVID-19 and all that it brought with it, I feel the situation created was beneficial to me. By having no in-person trainings, and all of it now being virtual, I was able to participate and benefit from much more than previously, due to my lack of transportation and inability to travel to the SC Assistive Technology Program. The SCATP Techie Tuesday's demonstrations allowed me to learn about vision devices and become more familiar with them before borrowing them and prior to making such an enormous investment of thousands of dollars! I also learned about prosthetic glasses that I did not know existed. I have RP and need to use vision assistive technology for Church and to help my grandson with school, etc. These devices will aid me in being able to see people, entertainment, and sporting events with my family.--Pam McIlvaine
