Michelle Dawson is a speech-language pathologist who has her own therapy company and works with many children. Michelle frequently borrows communication devices and adapted toys to try with the children she serves. Michelle shared "SCATP's device loan service is a win-win for my clients and my company. I have access to a wide variety of devices that I can use with the children to determine what is a good fit. SCATP's device loan service saves my company money because I use their devices for trials and don't need to spend money on my own devices."

A mother brought in her almost three-year old daughter, Audrey, and her daughter's SLP for an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) demonstration. The SC Assistive Technology Program staff SLP demonstrated multiple communication devices and apps. The family borrowed an iPad with several apps to try. An iPad with app was purchased based on the trial results. Audrey's mom shared with SCATP staff: "We are so thankful for this program! It's wonderful to have help navigating options and be able to try multiple AAC apps to find the best fit for Audrey." and later "Her progress is slow, but steady. She reaches for her device when she has something to say instead of just getting upset. The change for her is amazing already, and I can't wait to see the difference AAC will make for her in the future!"
