D. Anecdote

We have started a program in Ohio that leases telepresence robots to schools so that kids with disabilities, cancer, or other medical conditions can "attend" school from home or from the hospital. One young student, Aria, recently learned she has cancer. According to her father, "It's been a GODSEND to help my daughter virtually attend school since she is unable to attend in person." We find the biggest benefit to be social, as it allows the student to remain in contact with his or her friends and social peers.

1. We changed our website to go onto the Ohio State platform, including an upgrade to conform with the Ohio State professional look. We feel this has increased our flow of traffic to our website and is causing users to spend more time there and gather more information about our services. Our website traffic increased to 10,794 page views from 3,346 different users, a significant upgrade daily users and an increase in the amount of time they spend on the site.

2. We also have started a service where we give virtual tours of AT Ohio through telepresence robots. We are able to provide this service to consumers who have smart phones, tablets or computers. They can operate a telepresence robot and we can show them around our facility, and demonstrate various technologies. They have to ability to see it being used and can ask questions, all while learning about the potential of the telepresence robot itself.

State Improvement Outcomes

State improvement outcomes are not required. You may report up to two MAJOR state improvement outcomes for this reporting period. How many will you be reporting? 01

A. State Improvements

1. In one or two sentences, describe the outcome. Be as specific as possible about exactly what changed during this reporting period as a result of the AT program's initiative.

We administer a statewide program of adaptive toy lending libraries that are offered within local public libraries in Ohio. The purpose of the program is to introduce technology to children with significant disabilities in the rural areas of our state that might not otherwise access either our services or those of the public library.

2. In one or two sentences, describe the written policies, practices, and procedures that have been developed and implemented as a result of the AT program's initiative. Include information about how to obtain the full documents, such as a Web site address or e-mail address of a contact person, but do not include the full documents here. (If there are no written polices, practices and procedures, explain why.)

Every library creates and implements their own policies regarding the checking out and tracking of devices. We attempt to gather survey information by attaching stickers with our web address on them, asking users to complete an online survey for us.

3. What was the primary area of impact for this state improvement outcome?
